The Lost Recital
October 25, 2025.
4:00 PM - 5:00 PM, followed by reception featuring delicious fare by Ford’s Fish Shack and Fabbioli Cellars.
On February 13, 1915, eighteen-year-old Dorothy Leona Jewell stood before an audience in downtown Philadelphia and presented a classical voice recital that was the culmination of years of intensive study. Over the next three years, the young singer would marry and have a child, before succumbing to the Spanish flu pandemic, which claimed the lives of nearly 50,000 people in the city of Philadelphia alone and 5% of the population worldwide.
110 years later, on October 25th at 4:00 PM, mezzo soprano Pamela Butler re-creates her recital, with pianist Mark Irchai and guest student recitalist Lilli Hoehl. The performance will be a joint fundraising event for Loudoun Lyric Opera and the Lucketts Food Pantry and will feature the works of Scarlatti, Mozart, Schumann, Gretry, and Rimsky-Korsakov, among others. Guest of honor will be Dorothy’s grandson, Paul Muench, celebrating his 87th birthday. A complimentary reception, catered by Ford’s Fish Shack and Fabbioli Cellars Winery, will immediately follow the performance.

An epic reimagining of classic fairytales about wishes, family, and the choices we make.
The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.
This show is recommended for ages 12+ - have younger kids who like musicals? Bring them to our special "Family-Friendly Preview" performance! Sunday, November 9th at 1pm we'll be performing Act 1 only which is appropriate for all ages. This performance will be followed by a meet and greet and instrument petting zoo with the cast, art workshop with local artist Liz Nugent (who designed our poster art!), and snacks in the fellowship hall.
